Objectives for 5th & 6th Graders

  • The students will be able to develop their abilities to work in teams and resolve conflicts amongst themselves within the first week of the activity by introducing each other through class ice breakers
  • The students will learn to value and respect other opinions young and old regardless of culture, age, or background by reading and responding to articles and stories given by teachers and peers by writing in their journal or blogging
  • Students will learn how to plant rows evenly by using string and stakes
  • The students will recognize the importance of having and practicing manners to all by writing plays about bullying and acting them out at school chapel
  • Students will learn to be with others without putting each other down or gossiping by listening to teachers examples of what it is and writing down examples on an interpretive bulletin board in the hallway
  • The students will learn organization by coordinating a garden committee of 7 groups for the garden club (parents, teachers, older students) to create a timeline for the raising of crop
  • The students will have opportunities to cultivate the land with plants used as food and flowers
  • They will learn the meaning of a GREEN environment at school that everyone feels responsible for and demonstrate the needs our earth has by planting and raising a garden
  • The students will learn to sell garden product to raise funds for school
  • The students will learn leadership with positive energy by watching the interactions of the teachers and parents they are working with
